Expired Domain Discovery Methods

Four methods ranked by quality. Use the best method available before falling back.

Method 1: Authority Site Crawling (Best — Use First)

Why best: You find domains before aggregator sites list them. By the time Easy Expired Domains shows a domain, everyone else is looking at it too.

Process:

1. Compile 5-10 authority sites in your niche (forums, news, edu, directories)
2. Target specific sections — set URL "must contain" filter (e.g., /seo/ not the whole site)
3. In Domain Hunter Gatherer (DHG): Hunt From Websites
4. Set Crawl Levels to 10,000
5. Say NO to off-site crawling
6. Typical yield: 2 hours = 10,000-12,000 domains. Overnight = 20,000-30,000+

Filter after crawl: TF 10+, DA 15+, referring domains 20+, max 26 chars, English TLDs

Method 2: Wikipedia Mining (High Volume)

Best for: Finding domains with Wikipedia backlinks — these carry high authority.

Process:

1. Crawl en.wikipedia.org with must-contain filter
2. Set Crawl Level to 10,000
3. Run 2-3 days
4. Yields 90,000+ domains

Filter aggressively: TF 14+, DA 15+, max 26 chars, English TLDs Result: 90,000 raw → ~775 manageable candidates

Method 3: Keyword Search Crawl (Targeted)

1. Use keyword searches in your niche as starting points
2. Set crawl levels to 1-2 (domains linked from pages currently ranking)
3. Typical yield: single keyword = 2,000+ domains in ~7 minutes
4. Lower volume but higher niche relevance

Method 4: Aggregator Lists (Least Preferred)

Sources: Easy Expired Domains (EED), ExpiredDomains.net, Spamzilla

Minimum filter settings:

• TF 10+
• DA 15+
• 20+ referring domains

Problem: Everyone has access to these same lists. The best domains get registered by the time you see them. Always verify availability before vetting — never assume EED domains are still available.

TLD Preference Order: .com → .net → .org → .biz → .info → .co.uk

Domain Length

Max 26 characters for resellability. Under 15 characters is ideal. Shorter = more memorable = more natural backlink profile.

Volume Planning

For a 10-domain PBN:

• Plan to crawl 30,000-50,000 domains
• After TF/DA/RD filtering: ~2,000-5,000 candidates
• After Wayback Machine check: ~200-500 worth vetting
• After full vetting: ~50-100 qualified domains
• Register the best 10
